I want to read an article in a journal. It says "no full text available online". How do I get access to it? Is it available in the library?

Answer

If you are searching in a library database and the article you wish to view is not immediately available, there are a few steps you can take to gain access.

First, open the Journal Finder, which is a tool that allows you to search by article citation.

Next, enter the title of the publication (e.g., Journal or Magazine name, such as Christianity Today) into the “Title” box of the Journal Finder.

If we have the journal available through any database, it will appear on the subsequent screen under the section labeled Full text availability for this item. This will show a link to the Journal and the Collection (this is the database) and the dates of coverage, indicating the years and sometimes months, of available access for the journal title. Compare the dates of coverage to the year/month in your citation.

If the dates of coverage include the date of the article you need to access, click the Journal name link. This will launch you into the database where the journal is housed and you can navigate by date, volume, and issue number (all available in the original citation) to find the article.

If there are zero results for a journal title in the Journal Finder, we do not have electronic or print access to the title and you should follow procedures to request the item through interlibrary Loan.
